The Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds gelding, who has already scooped his syndicate over £570,000 in prize money, arrived in Riyadh at the weekend in readiness for the Group 3 feature over 10 furlongs on Saudi Cup night.
“He arrived safely and his owners are very excited to see him run,” says Kennet Valley’s racing manager Sam, Hoskins. “It’s great that so many of them are able to be there for such a big occasion and my colleague Piers Winkworth will be with them.
“We’ve sent our horse to Saudi very hopeful we can win the race and couldn’t be happier with his preparations,” he adds
Sir Busker shaped well in his ‘prep’ race at Lingfield earlier this month when he overcame a slow start to finish second in the inaugural Listed Tandridge Stakes over a mile on the Polytrack.
Ryan Moore, who rode him that day, will again be in the saddle in the Neom Cup so a big run is expected en route to a possible crack at the Group 1 Dubai Turf at Meydan next month – a race he finished a creditable fifth in last year.
“Ryan was very pleased with him at Lingfield despite his slow start but his trainer William Knight has hopefully rectified that problem,” adds Sam.
“Craig Witheford, who is a stalls specialist, has been over to William’s yard to work with Sir Busker so fingers crossed he gets away on terms to give himself every chance of winning such a valuable race.”
Sir Busker has won six of his 39 races including the Group 2 Sky Bet York Stakes last season. He was also a creditable third behind wonder horse Baaeed in last year’s Juddmonte International.
“We were running for place money that day but there’s no Baaeed to take on in Saudi so we believe this is a winnable race. George Boughey’s Missed The Cut looks a very smart horse in the making but he still has to prove himself at this level,” adds Sam.
“Our horse hasn’t got a lot of miles on the clock for a seven-year-old but has form at the highest level and to have Ryan’s services at the weekend is a great confidence booster. He’s come out of his Lingfield race in flying form so we’re looking forward to the weekend and what the new season has in store for our owners.”
Kennet Valley aren’t the only syndicate to have been on their travels lately. Last weekend Hambleton Racing’s dual Group 3 winner Tempus finished a creditable sixth in a Group 2 in Qatar for Archie Watson and Luke Morris.
