CHELTENHAM RETURN FOR PARTNERSHIP STAR

Simon Gillett, who is bringing new owners to Joe Tizzard’s successful jumps yard through syndication, is hoping for an early Christmas present with a horse he has a share in himself.

Exciting prospect Triple Trade, who Simon runs in the red and yellow colours of the SJS Partnership, re-appears in the Read Meg Nicholls’ Blog At betmgm.co.uk Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on Saturday.

The nine-year-old is set to return to the scene of his success in a two-mile handicap chase over course and distance in November on his return from an eight-month lay-off.

“Joe did a great job to bring him back from a sinus problem to win so impressively,” says builder and part-time fire commander Simon, who shared the gelding with gas engineer Simon Rudman and another member of the building trade, John Reed, until he passed away earlier this year.

“John would be so proud to see Triple Trade doing so well and in this horse his legacy goes on. We bought him for just £15,000 as a five-year-old but he was very green to start with. Then he won a novice hurdle at Lingfield and didn’t look back when he went chasing, winning five times now.

“He’ll be 10 in a few weeks so our plan is to target the veteran chases, including a valuable final at Haydock Park in the new year. Whether we end up at the Cheltenham Festival will depend on his rating and whether he would get his favoured soft ground but it’s definitely a possibility.”

Simon also runs the Colin Tizzard Racing Syndicate, set up by Joe’s father who trained with great success at Triple Trade’s home at Venn Farm in Dorset with stars like Cue Card, Thistlecrack and Native River before handing the reins to his son.

“The horses in Colin’s syndicate give shareholders such a lot of fun for not a lot of money. Typically, a 20th share would cost just around £1,500 which makes becoming an owner very accessible to a lot of racing fans.

“Lillington gave us exciting days out at Lingfield Park and Newbury a few years ago and we’re having fun with an appropriately named horse called Fight My Fire who won for us at Fontwell in October at 100-1. We couldn’t believe it!

“He ran well again in a handicap hurdle at Sandown last week so we’re hoping to see him win again before the season ends,” adds Simon. In the meantime, he hopes to once again be leading Triple Trade into the famous winner’s enclosure at Prestbury Park.
