A racing industry initiative, backed by both the Racehorse Owners Association and the Racehorse Syndicates Association, the series sees a number of racecourse events put on each year to promote shared ownership through syndicates and racing clubs.
On Monday 26th August, GBR kicked off this year’s Racecourse Ownership Days with on-course activity at Ripon Racecourse.
Ahead of the day’s racing, a group of lucky In The Paddock subscribers were invited to attend Ruth Carr’s training yard at Mowbray House Stables. Upon arrival, attendees were greeted with a warm welcome and refreshments from staff before hopping on a trailer for a behind-the-scenes tour of the facilities. Guests had the chance to hear from Ruth on the training methods she employs and meet the horses in their paddocks, offering a unique insight into the life of a racehorse. One lucky visitor even won a year’s membership to the Ruth Carr Racing Club.
Following the stable tour, visitors made their way to Ripon Racecourse, where a range of racing clubs and syndicates were on hand to discuss their shared ownership offerings. The exhibition area provided an excellent opportunity for racegoers to learn about the different ownership models available and engage with the various competitions running on the day.
We also welcomed a former racehorse to show racegoers about a racehorse’s life after racing; Mulligatawny ran in the ownership of Middleham Park Racing and is now enjoying a second career. There was a great atmosphere, as visitors were able to engage directly with industry experts to explore how they could get involved in the world of horse racing.
In support of the day, Ripon Racecourse kindly renamed the penultimate race, the GBR “In The Paddock” Ownership Day Classified Stakes, where Going Underground delivered a stunning performance to claim victory. A number of lucky racegoers were selected to judge the best-turned-out horse and present the prize to the winning connections. It was a great end to a day celebrating shared ownership and racing.
